Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
